VISTA Volunteer Specialist – [Charlotte, NC]

Position Description

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Charlotte is seeking a total of six VISTA members who through their service, will help our organization expand its anti-poverty programming and increase its capacity to serve more area children and youth.  To increase our service capacity, we must recruit more volunteers (or “Bigs”). We are seeking an outgoing individual to serve in the Volunteer Specialist role.  You will be part of a hard-working team that is dedicated to quickly moving each child that walks through our doors into a meaningful mentoring relationship with a committed and caring adult.  The VISTA Volunteer Specialist will both recruit new volunteers and more deeply engage existing volunteers. You will help identify potential volunteer sources and make connections in the community, with corporate, civic and faith groups.  You will help streamline the volunteer training and ongoing education process, to ensure that volunteers get the training and resources needed to feel competent in their role as mentor. You will also look for ways to improve communication efforts with our Bigs, reaching out to them through surveys/focus groups to gather feedback.  Finally, you will look for ways to increase our touchpoints with our volunteers, with the goal of deepening their connection to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Charlotte.

Qualifications

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have some college education
  • Complete a background check
  • Have strong communication skills and be comfortable with public speaking
  • Have solid understanding of computers/technology
  • Ability to work independently or on a team
  • Be passionate about serving children and youth
  • Car is recommended. Outside work/classes permitted, during off hours.

Organization Description

Every year, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Charlotte creates and supports impactful mentoring relationships for over 1,500 local children and teens, age five to eighteen years old.  Through our programs, young people facing adversity receive much-needed additional support and guidance so they can overcome their challenges and achieve success.  Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Charlotte is at the forefront of our community’s drive to not only serve children in need, but to open their minds to a myriad of possibilities, while supporting them along their path forward.
