After a Year Apart, Frank Took Mentoring to Heart
Big Brother Michael came to Frank’s high school once a week through the school-based mentoring program. They’d sit and have lunch and talk — about school, about friends, about life. It was a good and positive relationship for both of them.
Then Frank decided to drop out of both Big Brothers Big Sisters and even high school. He wanted to sort some issues out on his own. Would those old influences drag him down?
But what Frank figured out after a year was exactly how much mentoring had meant to him, and that he now knew what he wanted to get out of life. So he called up Michael and told him so.
“Michael Helped Me Realize My True Potential,” Frank Realized.
Frank had seen friends from his neighborhood make some bad decisions. Now he has a good job that he likes, he is enrolled in community college and determined to make something of himself.
Frank never really believed in himself until he met someone else who believed in him. That’s what happened when he became Michael’s little brother.
When you become a Big Brother or Big Sister, or support mentoring through your generous donations, you never know just how you’ll touch a young person’s life. But sometimes it’s the most profound influence of all:
Sometimes it’s Helping a Young Person to See His Own Future, and Believe He has What it Takes to Achieve His Dreams.
A good friend can make all the difference in life. It’s what Frank told a large crowd when he delivered a speech recently. And it’s what he plans to tell his own Little Brother someday when he gives a couple of hours a month to a young person … just like Michael did for him.
Remember, you don’t have to change your life to have a BIG impact on a young person. A few of hours a couple times a month can change someone’s future for the better! Why not volunteer or make a donation today?
