In our lives, each of us shared an important connection with someone who broadened our horizons and brought a little magic into our lives.
It was the person who taught you to throw that perfect spiral, or sat in the front row to cheer you on. They challenged you to reach for your goals and celebrated each little success along the way. These are the little moments that Big Brothers and Big Sisters experience every day.
These real life stories are just a few of the ways Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego County is changing lives and our community forever.

Though they have only been matched a short time, Little Brother, Nyko, feels a real connection to his Big Brother, Wes, who is in the Marine Corps. Nyko’s father, who is also a Marine, is away quite a bit for training and will soon be deploying to Iraq. Nyko said that is has made life easier for him since he has had Wes as a Big Brother. Wes has found the experience to be more fun than he ever imagined.
Wes is a very talented artist and Nyko enjoys science and when together they share their passions with each other. They have made paper airplanes that actually fly, launched ‘balloon’ rockets across the classroom, thrown footballs, and played baseball together.
Wes feels that his fellow Marines are missing out on such a great experience and wishes more would volunteer. Wes says, “It’s a win-win situation for both of them.”
