Mentoring Brothers

Men, find the information you need about becoming a mentor.

Big Brothers Big Sisters is proud to meet all the standards for charity accountability set by the BBB Wise Giving Alliance

"Spending time with my Little Brother is easy.  Stuff I’d do anyway is more fun with him."

In our lives, each of us shared an important connection with someone who broadened our horizons and brought a little magic into our lives.

It was the person who taught you to throw that perfect spiral, or sat in the front row to cheer you on, even when it was embarrassing. These are the little moments that Big Brothers and Big Sisters experience every day.

These real life stories are just a few of the ways Big Brothers  Big Sisters is changing lives and communities forever.

Big Brother Stuart and Little Brother Ky'Antre

Wanting to become involved in a child-focused charitable organization that was fulfilling on an individual level is what brought Big Brother Stuart Chittenden to Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Midlands in October of 2006.  Now in 2008, he can't imagine how his life would be if he never met his Little Brother Ky'Antre.  Pictured is the first match picture from 2006 of Big Brother Stuart and Little Brother Ky'Antre.

"We are both growing as people, learning from each other, while also learning more about the world around us by using newfound perspectives by which to look at the world," remarks Stuart.

Plus, Stuart says it is just fun.  Stuart and Ky'Antre usually meet 3 to 4 times a month.  Some of the places they visit together include Dave & Busters, the Amazing Pizza Machine or Family Fun Center.  Stuart and Ky'Antre also enjoy swimming, baseball, bowling, and sledding in the winter.  One of their favorite activities to do together is cooking.  The two of them have made cakes for family and friends and have cooked dinner for each other on several occasions.

Stuart and Ky'Antre interviewed each other on "StoryCorps: Recording America" on National Public Radio.  During the interview, Ky'Antre talked about how their relationship has grown since their first meeting.  "You taught me respect.  You taught me how to be mature,"  says Ky"Antre.  "You taught me how to be a young man."

As the two continue their match, Stuart is careful not to impose his vision or aspirations for Ky'Antre about his future.  That is not to say that Stuart doesn't have high hopes for Ky'Antre.  Pictured is Stuart and Ky'Antre fishing at a match activity at Bass Pro Shop in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

"Above all, I hope he finds his own personal truth and positive awareness of himself." says Stuart.  "In finding that, I am sure he will be able to be confident, capable of identifying his talents and exploiting the best opportunities life will offer him."
