In our lives, each of us shared an important connection with someone who broadened our horizons and brought a little magic into our lives.
It was the person who taught you to throw that perfect spiral, or sat in the front row to cheer you on, even when it was embarrassing. These are the little moments that Big Brothers and Big Sisters experience every day.
These real life stories are just a few of the ways Big Brothers Big Sisters is changing lives and communities forever.
Big Sister Tanya and Little Sister Ashley

Dear Big Brothers Big Sisters Michigan Capital Region,
I want to share with you one of your success stories. My name is Tanya. I was matched in Spring of 1997 with my Little Sister, Ashley. Ashley had just turned nine, and I had just turned 24. Today, at the ages of 20 and 35 respectively, we are still "si sters," and since our birthdays are just days apart, we still celebrate our birthdays together to this day. I have been there to see Ashley graduate from elementary school and high school. When she was nine, we both got dressed up to go to our Big Brothers Big Sisters prom (pictured above). Nine years later, I saw her off to her own high school senior prom (pictured right).
I also helped her move baack from her first year away at college. I've watched Ashley grow into a beautiful young girl. We are truly "sisters."
Thank you for giving us the opportunity to become sisters. We are grateful.
In sisterhood,
Tanya
