Bowl For Kids’ Sake events spring up around the country this time of year as Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies look raise much needed money through the organization’s signature fundraiser. Bigs, Littles, board members, staffers, volunteers and supporters spend some bowling, having fun and fundraising all in support of their local agency.
Some agencies make t-shirts for participants, but some let creativity go into overdrive, encouraging bowlers to dress to certain themes. Bowl For Kids’ Sake events have seen bowlers dressed as everything from zombies to superheroes. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Manitowoc County (Wis.) opted for a “Wizard of Oz” theme this year, calling their event “Follow the yellow brick road…to Rudy’s Lanes.”
Staffers and participants came dressed in a variety of costumes, including witches, flying monkeys, scarecrows and the tin man, along with a wizard and even a yellow brick road! In addition to the costumes and bowling, several bowling pins were decorated to match the “Wizard of Oz” theme, with each pin auctioning off for several hundred dollars apiece!
Over the course of the event, participants and supporters of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Manitowoc County had a blast while helping to raise more than $90,000 that will go toward supporting one-to-one matches for area-children who face adversity. Congratulations and great job Manitowoc!
