Inspiring Words as Honorees are Announced at Friends of Mentoring Luncheon

Dr. John C. Maxwell, best-selling author and internationally known leadership expert, spoke about the importance of being involved in a young person's life and the positive impact one can have by mentoring a child.  Maxwell was the keynote speaker at the annual Big Brothers Big Sisters of Midlands Friends of Mentoring Luncheon.

The Friends of Mentoring Luncheon was held at the Embassy Suites Convention Center in La Vista and benefits Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Midlands (BBBSM).  Nearly 400 people attended the luncheon, which raised over $60,000.  Each year the funds raised helps BBBSM continue to grow the number of youth served through one-to-one mentoring. Pictured above is Dr. John Maxwell with Amanda Mueller and her Little Sister Alyssa.

La Vista Mayor Doug Kindig and BBBSM Board President Ken Mar presented the awards.  KPTM Fox 42 News Anchor and Big Sister Amanda Mueller was the co-emcee for the event along with her Little Sister Alyssa.  Jeff Alseth was recognized as the Community-Based Big of the Year.  Kory White was presented the School-Based Big of the Year award.  Manchester Elementary, of the Elkhorn School District, was chosen as the School Partner of the Year.  Union Pacific was honored as the Corporate Partner of the Year.    Dr. Maxwell delivered an inspiring keynote address on the importance of having a positive impact on a young person's life.  He talked about how dedicating time and interest in a young person - taking the time to show them you care - can create a positive influence for a young person.  Dr. Maxwell commended the Bigs in the Omaha/Council Bluffs community that are making a difference in children's lives. Pictured above is Little Brother Aron talking about his Big Brother Jeff, the Community-Based Big of the Year.
