Come Together for Workplace Mentoring Program
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Pittsburgh’s Workplace Mentoring Partnership is a program that works with Bigs from American Eagle Outfitters (AEO) corporate headquarters and Littles from Arlington Academy in Pittsburgh, PA. All participating AEO employees volunteer one hour a week to mentor students in grades 5-7.
One of the Workplace Mentoring Partnership events is Reverse Day, when Bigs bring their Littles to attend a typical day in the workplace of the AEO Corporate Headquarters. By exposing the students to this corporate environment, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Pittsburgh is optimistic the Littles will have a positive experience in the corporate world to help them determine potential career paths.
At the most recent Reverse Day, matches spent time exploring the behind-the-scenes world of American Eagle Outfitters. The day began in the Photo Lab, where matches were taken on an interactive tour to find out how the photo lab is operated, followed by a group photo using special cameras that AEO uses for their photo shoots. After the photo, the Bigs took their Littles to their individual departments to share what their daily responsibilities are and how it relates to the clothes and accessories that Littles see when they visit an AEO store. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Pittsburgh’s Reverse Day was not only a hands-on learning experience for the Arlington Academy students, but also left a new appreciation of what their Big does for a living.
