Big Brothers Big Sisters Partners with Papazian Hirsch Entertainment Timed to the VOD & DVD Release of Least Among Saints

Powerful film about a returning veteran and a lost boy who become one another's last shot at redemption premieres May 3 on VOD; July 2 on DVD

PHILADELPHIA, PA (April 24, 2013) – Recognizing and appreciating the similarities between the mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters and the theme of the acclaimed film, Least Among Saints, the national mentoring organization is partnering with the film’s producers, Papazian Hirsch Entertainment, on a number of initiatives timed to the movie’s VOD/Digital Download release on May 3 and DVD release on July 2.

Least Among Saints Production, LLC will serve as the sponsor of the Big Brothers Big Sisters Alumni Recognition Reception at the 2013 National Conference in Denver while the national mentoring organization will present a series of special VIP screenings of the film to celebrate and recognize Big Brothers Big Sisters’ alumni mentors and mentees. Children served by Big Brothers Big Sisters include many who are from single-parent or low-income homes; households where a parent is incarcerated; or military families. The organization recently launched an effort to reunite with alumni “Bigs” and “Littles.”

In addition, the filmmakers have made a substantial donation to support Big Brothers Big Sisters’ work in carefully matching volunteer mentors with children who face adversity in long-term professionally supported mentoring matches.

Least Among Saints tells the story of a combat veteran’s journey to redemption through his service to an orphaned boy. Following the successful theatrical run at AMC Theaters last fall, the critically acclaimed film will be released May 3 on iNDemand’s Cable VOD Platforms (Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Cox Communications), and Vubiquity (AT&T U-verse, Verizon Fios, Brighthouse Communications, Charter Communications) as well as Dish Network. The film will also be available for digital download at Amazon On Demand, Apple iTunes, Microsoft XBox, and Sony Playstation. Links to rent or buy the film are available at the website: www.leastamongsaints.com.

“Since our run in 21 cities last fall, we’ve hosted dozens of grassroots screenings for veterans and non-profits that support veterans,” said Least Among Saints’ writer, director and star Martin Papazian. “To see audiences across the country be so moved by our film has been an immensely gratifying experience. Partnering with Big Brothers Big Sisters, we’ll be able to help audiences rally around a specific call to action that provides them a way to make a difference for veterans’ families and so many others who are working to give their kids and others in their communities every opportunity to succeed.”

Coming home to a broken marriage and uncertain future, veteran Anthony Hayward (Papazian) thinks he’s at the end of his rope. But when his troubled ten year-old neighbor, Wade (Tristan Lake Leabu), calls out for help, Hayward can’t seem to turn away. To the dismay of the boy’s embattled social worker (Laura San Giacomo), Hayward sets out on a fool’s quest to help this heartbroken but hard-to-reach child find his long-lost father, who might not even exist. Yet in the midst of this new mission – the first that seems to matter since his return -- Hayward begins to come to grips with both the costs of war and the universal power of human connection.

Described by Military.com as "A movie that has the same impact on issues for returning Iraq and Afghanistan veterans that Coming Home had for Vietnam vets," Papazian’s film has been raved about by veteran groups as an authentic portrait of one man’s struggle with the aftermaths of war and his quest for redemption.

Along with the May 3 VOD and Digital release, Least Among Saints will be available on DVD July 2 at retail outlets, including WalMart, Target, Best Buy, and others. The DVD will feature commentary by the director/writer/star Martin Papazian, as well as a number of featurettes and deleted scenes.

Least Among Saints is nominated for a PRISM award (feature film category) by the Entertainment Industries Council (EIC) and recently won the Audience Award at the Sedona Film Festival.

About Big Brothers Big Sisters

Big Brothers Big Sisters, the nation’s largest donor and volunteer supported mentoring network, holds itself accountable for children in its program to achieve measurable outcomes, such as educational success; avoidance of risky behaviors; and higher aspirations, greater confidence and better relationships. Partnering with parents/guardians, schools, corporations and others in the community, Big Brothers Big Sisters carefully pairs children (“Littles”) with screened volunteer mentors (“Bigs”) and monitors and supports these one-to-one mentoring matches throughout their course. The first-ever Big Brothers Big Sisters Youth Outcomes Summary, released in 2012, substantiates that its mentoring programs have proven, positive academic, socio-emotional and behavioral outcomes for youth, areas linked to high school graduation, avoidance of juvenile delinquency and college or job readiness.

Big Brothers Big Sisters provides children facing adversity, often those of single or low-income households or families where a parent is incarcerated or serving in the military, with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one mentoring relationships that change their lives for the better, forever. This mission has been the cornerstone of the organization’s 100-year history. With about 350 agencies across the country, Big Brothers Big Sisters serves nearly 630,000 children, volunteers and families. The organization is engaged in a nationwide search to reunite with alumni mentors, mentees, donors, and family, staff and board members. Learn more at BigBrothersBigSisters.org.
