Upcoming Star on National PBS Broadcast of American Graduate

Big Brothers Big Sisters will be featured on “American Graduate: Let’s Make It Happen,” a national public media initiative that leverages the power and reach of public television to help communities across America address the high school dropout crisis. The centerpiece of this national effort is American Graduate Day 2013, a seven-hour live broadcast and outreach event scheduled for September 28. This is a “call-to-action” telethon broadcasting from WNET’s Tisch Studios at Lincoln Center in New York City, profiling more than 20 national Community Partners. This is Big Brothers Big Sisters second year of being involved in the program.

“American Graduate through America’s public media stations, on air, online and in hundreds of communities, is working in partnership with teachers, students, educators, business and community leaders to encourage, in measureable ways, our kids to stay on the path to a high school diploma,” said Pat Harrison, Corporation for Public Broadcasting president and CEO. “Together with our 1000 local and national partners, we are having an impact and moving toward the national goal of a 90 percent graduation rate by the year 2020. American Graduate Day is just one example of how local public television and radio stations provide content that matters and engagement that counts.”

Big Brothers Big Sisters of America will feature incredible guests during our segment, which will air between 4:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. EDT on Saturday, September 28, during “American Graduate: Let’s Make It Happen.”One of Big Brothers Big Sisters’ guests is Big Sister, Tiffany Allen, Miss California International.
