NBA player Raymond Felton has long supported Big Brothers Big Sisters, stemming from his days as a point guard with the Charlotte Bobcats. Today, he plays a double role for the city of New York: point guard for the Knicks, and celebrity ambassador for Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York City.
Recently, Felton decided to take several Bigs and Littles out on the town, starting at the NBA’s offices in the city for some New York pizza (sorry, Chicago-style fans). Following their pizza dinner, Felton took the three Bigs and their Littles on a shopping spree at nearby NBA Store where they decked out in their favorite teams’ gear. Continuing the surprise, Felton presented the Bigs and Littles with tickets to a game the following Sunday! They had the chance to be there for the shoot around, and then settled into their seats for the game itself.
Felton’s night out was a part of the NBA’s Give BIG program which helps to highlight charitable events and initiatives carried out by NBA players and their fans in the holiday season. Felton has recognized both of his parents as mentors in his life – something he does not take for granted, and hopes to help provide that same level of enduring, supportive mentoring to children who could benefit from it.
"It is really a privilege for me to spend time with these kids and see firsthand not only their tremendous potential, but how their mentors are helping them live up to that potential," said Felton. "I encourage any adult who wants to have a positive impact on the world to become a mentor to a young person in need."
