Neiman Marcus Holiday Promotion Raises More Than $175,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters in Four-Day Promotion

PHILADELPHIA, PA, January 31, 2011 – More than 7,000 Neiman Marcus customers embraced the spirit of giving this holiday season and, $25 at a time, donated $176,800 to Big Brothers Big Sisters, supporting the mentoring organization’s mission to help children who face adversity succeed in school and in life.

From December 7 through 10 through the retailer’s InCircle Event, Neiman Marcus shoppers who donated $25 to their local Big Brothers Big Sisters agency received a $50 Neiman Marcus gift card. Consumers across the country showed their generosity and support of the youth-serving organization, including in Honolulu, Hawaii where more than 1,000 customers took part in the promotion and raised $26,250. Proceeds from the promotion will support Big Brothers Big Sisters’ programs and agencies in the local communities of the 41 Neiman Marcus stores located in corresponding markets.

The nation’s leader in quality one-to-one youth mentoring services, Big Brothers Big Sisters holds itself accountable for and is able to measure specific youth outcomes. Its programs focus on educational achievement, avoidance of risky behaviors such as juvenile delinquency, higher self-esteem, confidence and the ability to relate to others. Increased funding allows Big Brothers Big Sisters to carefully make more mentoring matches and provide ongoing assistance for mentors, mentees and families to help sustain long, successful relationships unique to its programs.

The Neiman Marcus InCircle Event comes as Big Brothers Big Sisters launches Start Something™, a national campaign that invites the public to get involved with the organization by donating, sharing stories of mentoring successes or volunteering.

About Big Brothers Big Sisters

Most children served by Big Brothers Big Sisters are in single-parent and low-income families or households where a parent is incarcerated. As the nation’s largest donor and volunteer supported mentoring network, Big Brothers Big Sisters makes meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers (“Bigs”) and children (“Littles”).

Big Brothers Big Sisters provides a system of ongoing evaluation and support that is proven by independent studies to help families by improving the odds that “Littles” will perform better in school and avoid violence and illegal activities, and have stronger relationships with their parents and others. Headquartered in Philadelphia with a network of nearly 400 agencies across the country, Big Brothers Big Sisters serves nearly 250,000 children.
