To kickoff National Mentoring Month this January, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado has been hitting the local media for any and all opportunities to feature their organization, to talk about their mission to ensure that all children who face adversity have the opportunity to receive professionally supported one-to-one mentoring with their organization.
The focus for Big Brothers Big Sisters this National Mentoring Month focuses on honoring and recognizing the hard work, effort and dedication put forth by our Bigs as they strive to make a positive impact on the lives of their Littles. Anumber of publications picked up a piece put together by a staffer at the agency. Her article, detailing Big Brothers Big Sisters’ mission, National Mentoring Month and a few stories of matches, appeared in “Southlands Life,” “NOBO Life,” and making the cover of “West Arvada Life,” magazines.
In addition to their stories in local magazines, a local ABC affiliate will be featuring stories on several matches from their agency throughout this month during the evening newscast, and they will be participating in a number of different activities throughout the community. The City of Aurora, outside of Denver, will issue a proclamation officially declaring January as National Mentoring Month. Additionally, several affiliate agency CEO’s and supporters have been writing letters to the editor of local papers around Colorado.
National Mentoring Month, given its very name and subject, is an important month for Big Brothers Big Sisters as an organization to spread the word and drum up support for our mentoring programs. Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies across the country are using National Mentoring Month as a means to encourage donation and support for their activities through events, social media, public relations campaigns and media attention.
