Local ABC affiliate WHAS11 in Louisville, Ky. has supported Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kentuckiana for the last 25 years. They continued that support yesterday by helping Bigs and Littles from the Kentuckiana agency raise money and have a little fun.
At local Mexican restaurant Salsarita’s Fresh Cantina, Bigs and Littles from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kentuckiana put their burrito-making skills to the test. Bigs and Littles participated in a burrito-rolling competition under the watchful eye of WHAS11’s Doug Proffitt, who judged the competition alongside a fellow newsperson from WLKY News.
Over the course of the evening, nine Littles participated in the contest as a part of a “Dine 2 Donate” event at Salsarita’s.
“We coordinated the event as a match activity open to the community, and were pleasantly surprised by the amazing turnout,” said Community Engagement Director Kristin Milosevich from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kentuckiana. “Our Littles had a blast, and one Little Sister asked me after the contest for us to do pizza tossing next!”
At the end of the night, a couple of Littles stood out as winners of the contest. For their burrito-rolling efforts, they received awards for the “Finest Rolled Burrito.” Between the hours of 5 p.m. and 9 p.m., Salsarita’s donated 15 percent of total sales to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kentuckiana to help support their professionally-supported mentoring programs, serving children in Louisville and the surrounding areas.
