Gretchen Faro has just assumed the role of President and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sister of Greater Cleveland. A native of the Cleveland area, she has lived and worked in a number of other cities and countries, including the Philippines, where she served with the Peace Corps after completing her undergraduate degree in economics at Michigan State University.
After the Peace Corps, Ms. Faro returned to Cleveland to continue her studies, earning a master’s degree in economics from Cleveland State University (CSU). Over the past thirty years, Gretchen has held a variety of positions in both the for-profit and not-for-profit sectors. While at CSU, she accepted a position as staff economist with AmeriTrust, which in turn led to a series of positions in asset management and corporate finance with several area manufacturers, including Eaton Corporation, Gould, Inc., and Orthopedic Development Corporation.
Gretchen’s first position in nonprofit management was with the Cleveland Advanced Manufacturing Program (now MAGNET), part of a national network of manufacturing extension centers. In that organization, she was responsible for creating a business consulting practice that supplemented the engineering and workforce development services. Since then, she has served as executive director for a number of organizations, including the Northern Ohio Youth Orchestras, The Herb Society of America, and the Cleveland chapter of City Year, a national service organization.
