  • Big Brothers Big Sisters Featured today on National PBS Broadcast at 4:30 p.m. EDT
  • Big Brothers Big Sisters is going to be on“American Graduate: Let’s Make It Happen,”a national public media initiative that leverages the power and reach of public television to help communities across America address the high school dropout crisis. The centerpiece of this national effort is American Graduate Day 2013, a seven-hour live broadcast and outreach event scheduled for September 28. This is a “call-to-action” telethon broadcasting from WNET’s Tisch Studios at Lincoln Center in New York City, profiling more than 20 national Community Partners. This is Big Brothers Big Sisters second year of being involved in the program.

  • Miss California International Featured as a Big Sister on National PBS Broadcast: American Graduate
  • The cool, calm and absolutely stunning Miss California International, Tiffany Allen, didn’t always have a life that was cool, calm and stunning. She grew up in a family with two drug addicted parents. As the oldest sibling of three children, she stepped in to be the parent as well. Allen says her childhood memories are hunger, homelessness and even devising ways to keep social services from breaking up the family, “I would take empty food boxes and fill the cupboards with them so when Social Services came to the house, they would think we had plenty of food.”

  • Like Big, Like Little
  • Anwar Richardson is now a sports journalist for NFL Yahoo! and he will be one of Big Brothers Big Sisters’ featured guests this Saturday, September 28th on the PBS telethon “American Graduate: Let’s Make It Happen.” Big Brothers Big Sisters Director of Media Relations, Deanna Sauceda asked Richardson a number of questions about his experience as a “Little.” His big brother is Derrick Jackson, an award-winning columnist at the Boston Globe and a finalist for a Pulitzer. Jackson was also a sports reporter at New York Newsday, while he was mentoring Anwar and definitely influenced Anwar’s life.This is from the interview with Anwar Richardson.
