“Big” Ways to Celebrate Big Brothers Big Sisters’ Bigs During National Mentoring Month
January is National Mentoring Month and Big Brothers Big Sisters is inviting the nation to celebrate its 200,000 Bigs as the celebrities they are in the eyes of their Littles. Big Brothers Big Sisters created a special Mentoring Month badge for January that friends, families, staff, board members, Littles and Alumni can use to show their support. Put it up as your Facebook or Twitter profile picture during National Mentoring Month and share on Instagram, LinkedIn, other social media, or even in your personal email signature.
In addition, Brothers Big Sisters of America is celebrating Jan. 16, "Thank Your Mentor Day," with customized e-cards in English and Spanish. You can download the artwork and put in your own emails or you can go to the National Website and send an e-card to a number of Bigs at one time. The customized e-cards can be found here. Celebrate our Bigs as the "Super Stars" they are and share these opportunities to recognize them with everyone in your network. Also, check to see if your local agency is hosting any "Purple Carpet" (the organization’s color) events to celebrate Bigs and Littles. We have all had someone in our lives who has been our mentor. Big Brothers Big Sisters marks 109 years of providing children facing adversity, often those of single-parent or low-income households, or families where a parent is incarcerated or serving in the military, with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one mentoring relationships that change their lives for the better, forever. During National Mentoring Month, say thank you to a Big you know.
