Suzanne Derry, Executive Director
Suzanne Derry came to the Big Brothers Big Sisters family in June of 2010. Suzanne and her husband are life long residents of the Gratiot County area and are raising their two sons on their family's centennial farm east of Ithaca.
Suzanne received her Bachelors Degree from Grand Valley State University, majoring in Public Administration. Suzanne's background includes working in the private business sector, holding public office as a Gratiot County Commissioner for two terms and working for several years in the public school system. Suzanne's career experience coupled with her volunteer work is a great addition to the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization.
Heather Gardner, Enrollment and Match Specialist
Heather Gardner came to the Big Brothers Big Sisters family in September of 2009. Originally from Alma, Heather and her husband recently moved back to the area to raise their children.
Heather received her Bachelors Degree from Michigan State University, majoring in Psychology. Heather's background includes work in the human services industry. Heather's vast experience includes working as a Case Coordinator for the Child Protection Center in Sarasota Florida and as an Advocate and Prevention Program Manager for Underground Railroad, Inc.
Ed Howes, Scool Based Coordinator
Ed Howes began his work with Big Brothers Big Sisters in September of 2008. Ed retired from Carson City-Crystal Schools after teaching middle school science and physical education for 31 years.
Ed received a Bachelor of Science from Michigan State University and has earned a Master's Degree from Central Michigan University focusing on Outdoor Recreation and Field Biology. Ed brings with him experience in mentoring, child development and coaching skills.
Pauline Black, Administrative Assistant
Leah Talaski, Program Coordinator, Montcalm County
Leah has been serving as our Montcalm Program Coordinator since August 2002. Leah is an experienced professional and is dedicated to the work of Big Brothers Big Sisters. With strong interpersonal skills she provides excellent service to volunteers, children and families, resulting in longer and stronger matches.
Leah is a graduate of Central Michigan University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. Leah’s additional training with Big Brothers Big Sisters includes: Customer Relations, Enrollment & Matching, Match Support, and Volunteer Orientation. She has also attended Mentor Michigan Conference, Presenting Montcalm County and Domestic Violence Affect on Children.
