America's Promise:
We and America’s Promise Alliance are working to reduce the number of dropouts. (Did you know that we’ve been partners with them since they were founded in 1997 ... 11 years and counting. Now that’s a good match.) One dropout every 26 seconds means 7000 dropouts each and every school day. As all you faithful readers know, one of the things we’re most proud of is how Big Brothers Big Sisters has had such a tremendous influence on keeping Littles in school and helping them graduate. So when we heard about the 15 in 5 Campaign Network we rushed to participate. The Campaign Goal is to help 15 million of our most disadvantaged young people over 5 years. Let’s help all kids stay in school and graduate. Please visit America’s Promise to learn more.
Hispanic Scholarship Fund:
Since 2004, Big Brothers Big Sisters and HSF have united with the goal of promoting academic success among Latino youth through the guidance and support of mentoring. HSF actively recruits and invite its 44,000 scholarship recipients and alumni providing a volunteer stream of Hispanic Bigs to augment a population that is presently under-represented in BBBS volunteer pools. BBBSA provides a vehicle for volunteerism to HSF scholars and alumni as a service learning opportunity that can strengthen current scholars’ options for post-secondary advancement. In addition, BBBSA provides its highly successful Service Delivery Model to help sustain and provide support to matches, strengthen the youth in their college readiness. BBBS promotes Littles and Bigs attendance to HSF College Preparation workshops and Town Halls to expose them to opportunities and resources available. Working together, the two organizations can better serve many more of America’s Hispanic children and youth. Please visit the Hispanic Scholarship Fund to learn more.
