VASELINE Skinvoice campaign asks “What does your skin mean to you?”

Often we forget just how amazing skin is. It constantly renews itself. It shows the world how we feel and lets us feel the world. It is essentially where we end and the world begins. Yet skin means different things to different people. What does your skin mean to you?  That’s the question being asked in the VASELINE Skinvoice Campaign, featuring actress Alfre Woodard, which invites people to share their thoughts and join a dialogue at a new website, www.skinvoice.com, to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.

Since September, people from all over the country have logged onto skinvoice.com by the thousands to participate in this dynamic forum. For some, skin identifies and defines them. For others it is a source of pride and amazement. For almost everyone, it is a topic that resonates on many levels and elicits a wide variety of responses.

“My skin is my constant close companion. We live and breathe together. When there is joy and goodwill in my heart, my skin glows,” says four-time Emmy Award winning actress Alfre Woodard, whose personal thoughts on her skin and photo are featured on skinvoice.com. “The color of my skin has required me to take a rigorous journey through these times, in this place. It has been a textured and complicated path full of laughter and wailing, standing up and facing forward, ‘getting mad’, wanting to take my ball and go home. But never, ever giving up.”

Other well-known women have shared their thoughts on the site to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters. You can see what actresses Victoria Rowell, LaChanze and Vivica A. Fox and ABC News Correspondent Deborah Roberts have to say about what their skin means to them.

One of the amazing things about skin is that it takes life’s bumps and bruises and always bounces back. Having a Big Brother or Big Sister helps children bounce back from life's bumps and bruises and gives them confidence, support and mentors who can play an important role in the their lives. To this end, the VASELINE Skinvoice campaign is benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters through a donation of $100,000. When you register and share your thoughts at skinvoice.com through December 31, 2006, you are also helping to support Vaseline’s donation. Visit skinvoice.com today and make your skin voice heard!
