America’s Big Citizen of the Year Award
Big Brothers Big Sisters is celebrating National Mentoring Month with the introduction of the 2009 America's Big Citizen of the Year Award.
Please note: voting has now ended for the 2009 America's Big Citizen of the Year Award. We will release the winner shortly.
America’s Big Citizen of the Year Award
National Mentoring Month, celebrated in January, is spearheaded by the Harvard Mentoring Project of the Harvard School of Public Health, MENTOR/National Mentoring Partnership, and the Corporation for National and Community Service. The 2009 theme is “Expand Your Universe: Mentor a Child.” As part of the activities, Mentoring Month includes Thank Your Mentor Day, which in 2009 is January 22.
This year, as Big Brothers Big Sisters celebrates the mentoring movement, we are asking Americans to take time this month to recognize individuals who are doing their part to change how our children grow up in America. As we focus on our nation’s most vulnerable children during a time when children confront serious risks -- growing school drop out rates and neighborhoods suffering from poverty and violence – we want to pay tribute to people who are helping kids beat the odds.
We will recognize America’s Big Citizen of the Year this summer during Big Brothers Big Sisters National Conference in Miami, where the winner will also be our special guest at a private Big Celebrity dinner.
