What is BBBS of SDC tweeting about?

In our Operation Bigs Program, we provide mentors to children whose parents are deployed.

“As far as helping another Marine family, it just goes along with our philosophy: We take care of our own; we don’t leave anybody behind, and that includes our families.”

Making the Connection

Big Brother and Big Sister matches come together through one of our four Community-Based Mentoring programs, one of our three School-Based Mentoring programs and one model focusing on mentoring in the Hispanic Community.  Please click on the following links to learn more!

Community-Based Mentoring: One-to-one mentoring out in the community

Community-Based mentoring is the traditional Big Brothers Big Sisters program where Bigs and Littles get together on their own to share fun activities they both enjoy.

The Community-Based Mentoring program is flexible to accommodate a variety of schedules. Volunteers meet with a child  2-5 hours, 2-4 times a month, for a minimum of one year.

      School or Site
Based Mentoring: One-to-one mentoring in a school setting or at a community center

Bigs and Littles meet for one hour sessions in the classroom, school library, school computer room, or on the playground.  Bigs and Littles typically met once a week to read together, play sports, or computer games, or simply talk about life and personal issues - just as friends do.
