Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Twin Cities (BBBS) matches young people with adult, volunteer mentors to build long-term, one-to-one relationships. Volunteer mentors provide friendship, emotional support and hope to young people.
Making the Connection
Big Brothers and Sisters give a child the invaluable gift of friendship by simply spending time together. BBBS offers programs to meet the needs of a wide variety of volunteer interests. Program opportunities include:
School-based Program: Volunteers meet with children at one of 40 participating schools for an hour once a week for focused activities including reading, educational games, physical activity or art. This program is an excellent fit for busy professionals who may participate during the lunch hour. Learn more.
Community-based Program: This program connects adults and children who want a mentoring relationship with flexibility. Matches meet two to four times a month at the locations of their choice. In addition to the One-to-One Community-based Program option, we offer several related opportunities, for which volunteers also meet their mentees two to four times per month. Learn more.
How a Big becomes a Big (and a Little a Little)
A lot of things have to happen before we make a match. All our Bigs go through a thorough background and reference check and careful interview process. Then, we match Bigs and Littles based on location, personalities and preferences. We provide full support along the way — so that matches can grow into lasting friendships.
