Community-based Program

Community-based mentoring is BBBS' original program. Matches in the Community-based Program enjoy flexibility and freedom in their meetings. Bigs and Littles meet two to four times a month. During their meetings, matches might do something special or just enjoy their time together. BBBS has many activity suggestions and offers occasional tickets to sporting, theater and cultural events.

In addition to the One-to-One mentoring program option, BBBS also offers several related opportunities, for which volunteers also meet their mentees two to four times per month.

1. Big Couples/Colleagues: This program option allows volunteers to partner with a co-worker, sibling, spouse or friend to mentor a young person.

2. Big Families: This is BBBS' newest program. Big Families engages a primary mentor in a relationship with a primary child with a defined supplemental role for the mentor's family. Learn more.

3. Mentoring Children of Prisoners: This program, run in collaboration with Search Institute and the Council on Crime and Justice, enables mentors to provide positive support and guidance to children with an incarcerated family member so that they may realize their potential. Learn More.

After a match is made, BBBS' Match Support Coordinators will contact the volunteer, child and parent regularly to offer help and support.
