"Spending just four hours a month with my Little Brother is easy - in fact, it's usually the best part of my week."
Big Brother Pat

Matches are made based on shared interests, personality and your volunteer preferences.

Quick Steps to Become a Big
Here are the quick and easy steps we'll walk you through:

  • 1) Call 651.789.2400 or e-mail us at enrollment@bigstwincities.org to sign up for an orientation/training session. Click here  to view the orientation schedule.
  • 2) Learn more. At the orientation you will learn more about our program options from a highly trained BBBS staff member. You will then submit your application (if you have not done so already) and schedule your interview.
  • 3) Interview. A Match Coordinator will interview you in-person.
  • 4) Background Check. Child safety is our priority, so we'll review your records to ensure you'll be a good fit for our program.
  • 5) References. You'll need to provide five references of people we can talk to about your ability to be a mentor.
  • 6) Acceptance. Program acceptance is determined and communicated to volunteer.
  • 7) Matching. We will review the waiting Little Brothers and Sisters and find the best fit for you. Depending on your gender and the kind of child you'd like to work with, matching may go very quickly or take some time. Making the right match is important to our commitment to form lasting relationships.
  • 8) Support. On-going training and support is provided for every Big Brother and Big Sister.

Spending Time with Your Little
Once matched, Big Brothers and Big Sisters develop friendships with their Little Brothers and Little Sisters. It doesn't matter so much what you do; what does matter is the enthusiasm and enjoyment you have for being with your Little Brother or Sister.

We'll Support Your Friendship
When you are a Big Brother or Sister, you're not alone. Each match is supported by professional staff at the agency. Match Support Coordinators regularly check in with volunteers, children and parents and are always available to answer questions.

BBBS holds regular events, giving you an opportunity to meet other Bigs and Littles in your area.  Plus, through the generosity of our partners and individuals in the community, there are often free tickets to ball games, the theater and more!

Once you become a Big Brother or Sister, there is even a special section of the website for you. There, you can get online information about how to make your match even better!
