"Spending just four hours a month with my Little Brother is easy - in fact, it's usually the best part of my week."
Big Brother Pat

Be an Everyday Advocate: Someone who is passionate and dedicated to the mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters and plays a crucial role in expanding the number of young people we serve by taking steps to recruit more Bigs.

BBBS needs your help in telling others, “You don’t have to change your life to change a child’s.”  Become an Everyday Advocate and help us attract new Big Brothers and Sisters! Our Everyday Advocates support us here in the office, promote our programs at events, post flyers in the community and much more.
We would love for you to help us whenever you can and we ask that you commit to helping just
two times a year.

Below you will find a list of resources and ideas to help you promote BBBS and support the power of mentoring in our communities. If you have any questions about how you can help or would like information sent to you regarding the Everyday Advocate Team, please contact Mike Marcotte
at 651-789-2496 or mmarcotte@bigstwincities.org.

Ways you can be an Everyday Advocate
You can help! We know that word-of-mouth referrals are the number one reason others decide to volunteer. Here are simple suggestions for recruiting more great Bigs:

  • Send an e-mail to your friends, family, coworkers, etc. about how fun and easy it is to be a Big. We have created a template to make this easy for you to forward to friends, family or colleagues. If you use this template, please change the words within brackets to reflect you and your relationship with your Little.
  • Hand out “Become a Mentor” business cards to anyone who might be interested in volunteering.
  • Give your time. In addition to Big Brothers and Sisters, agency volunteers help out with large mailings, office tasks, staff events and share their unique talents.
  • Invite a BBBS recruiter to host a brown bag lunch or attend a staff meeting at your office.
  • Write about your experiences in your employee newsletter (BBBS can provide the article).
  • Ask a BBBS recruiter to come speak to your church, synagogue or faith community.
Post flyers at local businesses or community organizations. Click here to download a tear-off flyer.
  • Carry a photo of your Little in your wallet. Tell your story in the grocery line, at the water cooler or anywhere else people will listen. Ask them to call 651.789.2400.
  • Speak at a BBBS Volunteer Orientation.
  • Be an intern. BBBS has internships throughout the agency in key areas such as Enrollment and Matching, Match Support, School-based, Marketing and Public Relations and Development.
