April 2012 - Match of the Month

Big Sister Chelsea
Little Sister Izabell

One of the greatest aspects of a friendship is being able to learn from one another. In the year that Big Sister Chelsea and Little Sister Izabell have been matched they have not only grown closer but have also been able to learn so much from each other.

Big Sister Chelsea feels that although she and Izabell know each other well, there will always be new things they will discover as their relationship grows. “It takes time to develop the feeling of friendship and trust, but in the end it’s so worth every second you spend developing a new relationship.”

Little Sister Izabell believes that Chelsea has been a very positive influence in her life. “Chelsea is nice, funny and smart; I look up to her as a role model.” She says that the most important lesson Chelsea has taught her is the value in being kind to others. Big Sister Chelsea echoes similar sentiments. “When I signed up, I never actually thought I’d make a difference in someone’s life. “ As they spent more time together, she saw Izabell open up to her and found that in just one year they had grown to trust each other, even with the most personal aspects of their lives.

Both girls enjoy playing sports and being outside but also like to do “girly” things like painting each others’ nails. Izabell and Chelsea feel lucky to have each other because neither of them have any sisters. Chelsea explains, “She is like the sister I never had.”

On September 14th the 8th Annual College Bound Movers (CBM) Golf Classic benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Nashua & Greater Salem took place at the Amherst Country Club. The BBBS one-to-one mentoring program is without charge for families therefore community support for fundraisers like the CBM Cares Golf Classic is critical in accomplishing their mission to support kids with positive role models. “It takes an incredible amount of support from many CBM volunteers, raffle & auction item donors, event sponsors and over 100 golfers to make this event a huge success and for that we are grateful”, says Joy Barrett CEO of the BBBS Nashua & Salem agency. Breakfast was provided by Frederick’s Pastries; Texas Roadhouse generously prepared a delicious lunch and snacks and beverages were donated by Frito Lay. This year the CBM Cares Golf Classic raised over $30,000 in which 100% of proceeds will be donated directly to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Nashua & Greater Salem to support their mentoring programs.
