real life stories

October 2009 - Match of the Month
Big Sister Joyce & Little Sister Alyssa

“She is brave” This is one of Joyce’s favorite things about her 12 year old Little Sister Alyssa, “She is brave because she likes to try new things!” Alyssa and Joyce have been matched in the community based program for one year and were meeting once a week for lunch in the site based program at school before this. Some of their favorite things to do together are biking, watching a movie, and rollerblading. They have recently ridden the Nashua bike trail all the way to Groton, Massachusetts!

When talking to Alyssa about her friendship with her Big Sister Joyce, she will tell you that she loves to hang out with her; “it’s nice to have someone to talk to.” They meet about twice a month, sometimes more, and Alyssa always looks forward to their next meeting.

Joyce also looks forward to her outings with Alyssa and the many activities they do together. Joyce loves that Alyssa is always willing to try new things and that she is gentle with people and animals. Joyce also feels that having a Little Sister opens her eyes to what young girls are going through today and the challenges that they face. It keeps her open to the young mind!
