What is STEPS all about?
The STEPS program offers a well-charted, guided journey for Little Brothers and Little Sisters that provides tools and strategies for the successful accomplishment of academic achievement milestones in preparation for college, the military or entry into the workforce. Each child will be assessed independently and their experience in the program customized to their needs. This unique college preparatory and enrichment program will enhance the mentoring experience of our 7th – 12th grade Littles, to include teenagers’ most critical educational milestones – staying in school, promoting successfully to the next grade level, graduating from high school, going off to college or starting a career.
All matched Littles in the 7th grade or higher can enroll in the program. The program includes standard elements designed to provide direction, knowledge, motivation and rewards for matches as they complete each step.
The Road Map
BBBS develops a customized Road Map for each child based on their individual assessments. As Littles advance to the next grade level, the Road Map advances to provide guidance and direction for age/grade specific requirements and personalized development.
The Rewards
College is accessible and affordable for our Littles - and the STEPS program will inform and prepare Littles to apply for BBBS and other scholarship opportunities.
Motivation
As a creative way to inspire Littles to get excited about education, STEPS includes an incentive and rewards program called Big Bucks. As participants navigate through their road map to graduating students will have the opportunity to accumulate Big Bucks and cash them in at the annual celebration party for college ready/workforce ready prizes.
Events
STEPS will provide events throughout the year that all participants are encouraged to attend. These events will provide tools, knowledge and trainings essential to the program as well as allow participants to meet other matches involved in the program.
