Wine on the Waterfront
They say when a door closes, a window opens. Due to unfortunate circumstances including a lack of sufficient vendor participation, we have made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s Wine on the Waterfront event that was scheduled for September 10, 2011.
We will embark on a new campaign called Heroes Wanted: The Big Brothers Big Sisters 100 Hero Challenge. 100 Men, $100,000, in 100 days. YOU can make this happen. With the loss of Wine on the Waterfront and our $100,000 federal grant, we need to raise critically needed funds to continue our mission. Please donate today and spread the word to your networks!!

Sports Bigs
The Sports Bigs Program has been a part of some fun and exciting activities over the summer. The last event was river rafting on the American River. Here is a little information about the American River Raft Rentals Inc:
Since 1974, American River Raft Rentals Inc. has become the largest and most experienced rafting company in California offering self-guided raft trips on the lower American River. This class II river flows through the scenic American River Parkway. With all of the parkway’s natural beauty you would never guess you were just a few miles east of downtown Sacramento!
Youth groups enjoy team building programs that are aimed more at creative problem solving and group communications skills. A relaxing adventure down the river is perfect for Scouts, schools, camps or church youth groups.
“It was a pleasure having Big Brothers Big Sisters here, the kids looked like they had a great time. We admire what Big Brothers Big Sisters does for the community and we look forward to serving them again in the future.”

Alumni Big Turns 50
A long time ago when I was 5 years old (joking), I matched a Big named Rick to a little named Anthony. It was June of 1994. They had a successful relationship and a bond that would last beyond their 6-year match. They have stayed in touched over the past 17 years!
Rick turns 50 in a couple of weeks and in lieu of gifts, has asked his friends to donate to Big Brothers Big Sisters! We want to thank Rick and Timi for continuing to bless Big Brothers Big Sisters. It is such a thoughtful gesture and we wanted you to know how much we appreciate it!!

Match Graduation
On July 9th, we celebrated in the park, the many matches graduating from the program. As always, the first to cry would be me!! It was an emotional day filled with stories of friendships that have grown over the past two years to seven years. It was great getting those matches together to share the impact that was not only in the life of the child but how it impacted the life of the volunteer!!
The graduation was followed by the volunteer appreciation day where current matches joined in the fun. Please enjoy some of the pictures below!! Thank you to all that attended. Big thanks to my husband Bruce and my boys for preparing the food and getting the BBQ set-up! Thanks to the BBBS staff for making it a fun event.

Longboards
Going Coastal Longboards donated four handmade boards to our Littles. With so many boys in the program, the staff choose a few to write an essay on why they should get the board. The top essays received their longboards at a recent activitiy.
Here is a little information about our donor: Going Coastal Longboards was established in August 2009 in Galt, California. Though located in Central California, we bring coastal culture to our inland friends by creating longboard skateboards that are surfy in both appearance and feel. Since our establishment we have pressed over thirty boards and have had requests from as fas away as China. We continue to innovate and this summer, plan to begin building lighter and flexier boards using fiberglass. We’ll continue making more of our Signature Series, among them boards similar to our latest creation, the “checkerboard.” Visit our website at sites.google.com/site/goingcoastalstatus.
