LIttle Brother, Ian, nominates his Big Brother, Daryoosh for Big Brother of the Year, 2008

I've been matched with my big, Daryoosh for over three years now.  It's crazy to think about how fast everything has gone by with our relationship.  And it's amazing how much we both grew over time.  When we went on our first outing I had to look up at him every time I wanted to say something.  And now we're laughing at each other eye to eye.  But I know pretty soon it's going to be him looking at me. 

When I think about how close we've came it stuns me. I remember getting into this program thinking that I was just going to get matched with some creepy dude.  But I was completely wrong.  My Big isn't creepy, he's just a goof.  I've become so close to his family, it's not even funny.  His son and I have become such good friends.  I don't know how many nights I spent over there this past summer just to hang out with him and my Big.  They have taken me in and treated me just like their own family. I even get in trouble like their family. But I am so grateful for them.

Having fun with my Big Brother is easy.  He picks me up, we talk, we're done. My Big always knows how to relate to me even when I'm feeling my worst. He always seems to have a story of when he was my age.  He once told me about how he got to where he is today by simple moves and smart decisions he made.  It was so wonderful to hear about how his hard work had paid off.  And that encouraged me a little to maybe think about what I want to do in life and have a plan as to where I want to go.  It's one of the best feelings in the world to have someone in my life who I can relate to me and talk to, because I've never had that before.  My Big is truly my brother.

I've experienced so much from being matched with my Big.  I've been to my first professional basketball, football, and circus with him.  Memories that I had there are priceless and I'm glad I had them with my Big.  Being with my Big always brings a great feeling inside of me.  It's not just teh fact that he has taken me to these great events. Just knowing that someone's always going to be there to just hang out and do whatever we feel like, and have a good time doing it.

Being a Big in this program doesn't take as much work as most people think it does.  It's mostly just being a friend. And sometimes that's all people need.  I know that's what I needed.

These past two years we've been together I've wrote for this award.  And both years I've been runner up.  I'm older now so maybe I can write a little better. I always tell my Big that I'm sorry I couldn't write a "Big of the Year" paper.  But he always reminds me that he doesn't need to be recognized, being matched with me is reward enough.  And thinks like that just make you feel on top of the world.  I hope all of you at Big Brothers Big SIsters of Greater Sacramento can recognize a great man who has helped me so much. 

Little Sister, Brandie, nominates her Big Sister, Tiffany, for Big Sister of the Year 2008

Me an Tiffany have been matched for three and a half years.  I had a Big before her and she moved to North Carolina but she did not abandon me. I got another Big because I know that Val would have wanted that. I am glad that I met Tiffany because if I did not meet her I would be sitting at home being bored. Tiffany is nice, caring and a thoughtful person. She takes me on nice outings and gets me stuff. I love Tiffany so much and I am happy to have her as my Big Sister.

I think that she should be Big Sister of the Year because she is always there for me and she is very nice to people. She also made my life better and that I could always depend on her. I love Tiffany so much that I think that our sisterhood and our friendship should last even when BBBS is over with. This is teh reason why I think Tiffany, my Big, should be Big Sister of the Year. I love TIffany so much.

Little Brother, Andrew, nominates his Big Brother, Jack, for Big Brother of the Year 2007

I, Andrew, would like you to nominate Jack. He has been with me for seven years, and in that seven years Jack has helped us with many problems. Like when I was getting bad grades, but Jack’s helped me and now I’m doing a whole lot better. When I need help with something Jack helps me. He is like part of the family. Jack has inspired me to grow up and get a good job. Not only has Jack helped me but he has also helped my family too. I am now going to his church in Lodi, and I go to a lot of places with the church too. But on top of all that, he helps the community. He donates blood to the hospital, and every Christmas he plays Santa in the stores. He and his wife Deana help a lot of people. So please nominate Jack Wixon.

P.S. My grandma thinks he’s the best thing in my life besides her.
