Opening New Worlds for Your Child

Mentors are adults that say "yes, you can!" to a child. They are the grown-ups we've all known during our childhood — the ones who took the time to listen, taught us how to skate, cheered us on to score the winning goal or consoled us when we didn't.

The people who volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters have the time to spend a few hours a month with a child. Some have had children of their own, and want to share experiences with another child. Others have had a special mentor in their life, and now want to play that role in the life of a child. Others just like having fun — and sharing those experiences with a child like yours.

We ask all of our volunteer Big Brothers and Big Sisters to meet regularly with their Little Brother or Little Sister for a minimum of one year. Together they can:

Go to the library
Roller skate
Work on homework
Hang out and talk
Play catch at the park
Do all sorts of other fun things

All of our volunteers are carefully screened before they can become a Big Brother or a Big Sister. We focus on the quality and integrity of our volunteers by:

Running a national criminal background check
Speaking with at least three references
Verifying a valid driver's license and auto insurance
Interviewing candidates
