Mr. Terry Hypes
Chief Executive Officer
Terry was born in Pearisburg, Virginia in 1949 and graduated from Giles High School in 1967. He graduated from Virginia Polytechnic and State University in 1971 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He was commissioned as an officer in the United States Air Force shortly after graduation and served with the Air Force until retirement as a Colonel on August 1, 1999.
During his military career he was assigned in various worldwide locations. Terry held multiple command/leadership positions during his military career, including squadron commander on two occasions, base commander, and deployed group commander. His last assignment was at Little Rock Air Force Base as the Inspector General and Director of Staff. Terry earned a Masters Degree in Business Management in 1976. From July 1, 1999 until May 1, 2006 Terry served as the Chief Executive Officer for Good Shepherd Ecumenical Retirement Center in Little Rock, Arkansas.
Terry assumed his current position as Chief Executive Officer for Big Brothers and Big Sisters of the Upstate in May of 2006.
Ms. Joan Moore
Chief Development Officer
Ms. Joan Moore, a native of Canton, OH serves as Chief Development Officer for Big
Brothers Big Sisters of the Upstate. Joan, who has lived in the upstate area
for 23 years, received a BS degree in Business Administration from Southern
Weslyan University and has had past experience working for Boys and Girls Club,
Urban League of the Upstate and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Her primary
focus is to raise funds so that BBBS Upstate can continue to offer services to
as many upstate children who need them.
Joan is the mother of two children, Tina and Jason and the very proud grandmother of 4 year
old Arlen. She attends First Baptist Church in Spartanburg and enjoys reading
and cake decorating.
Mr. Derrick Sullivan
Program Director
Derrick is a Greenville native who graduated from the University of South Carolina in 2000 with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration. He joined Big Brothers Big Sisters staff in 2002 and was instrumental in opening our new office in 2006. He was named Program Director in 2007. Derrick is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc and attends Bethlehem Baptist Church where he coaches the 6-8 year old basketball team. He is married with 2 daughters, Lisa and Sydney, and enjoys golf and football.
