Big Brothers Big Sisters is the oldest, largest and most effective youth mentoring organization in the United States. We are the leader in one-to-one youth service for more than a century, developing positive relationships that have a direct and lasting impact on the lives of young people.

Big Brothers Big Sisters has been established in the Harrisonburg-Rockingham community since 1976.  We have a long history of serving children and strengthening families.

Our mission is to make a positive, measurable difference in the lives of children by promoting self-esteem, expanding awareness of life's opportunities, and providing education, guidance, and support through professionally-supported, one-to-one mentoring relationships.

Mentoring Works
National research has shown that positive relationships between youth and their Big Brothers and Big Sisters have a direct and measurable impact on children's lives. Little Brothers and Sisters are:

  • More confident in their schoolwork
  • Able to get along better with their families
  • Less likely to engage in risky behaviors, like drugs and alcohol
