Community-based mentoring is the traditional Big Brothers Big Sisters relationship, where Bigs and Littles get together on their own to share fun activities they both enjoy. Matches typically meet for one hour a week.
Getting together is a great time for both the Big and the Little. It doesn’t require a special occasion or expensive activities; just a few hours every month to share the simple things you already like to do. Things like….
- Shooting hoops
- Playing a board game
- Sharing a pizza
- Taking a walk in the park
- Or just hanging out and talking.
Community-based mentoring includes the following programs:
- AMACHI is a faith bsed mentoring program for children of incarcerated individuals.
- BIGS 4 U is a program service of BBBS in collaboration with the Department of Children Services. This program matches children that are in foster care from DCS with the men and women of the Memphis community.
- CORE is the primary service provided by BBBS to children of single-parent families who are the most at risk.
