Signature Events and Activities

Throughout the year, Six Degrees members will be given the opportunity to mingle and network with one another at Connection Mixers and interact with many of the Tampa Bay area’s most prominent and well-respected business leaders during Big Shot events.

Connection Mixers
A Six Degrees Connection Mixer is designed to create a social platform that encourages networking, builds camaraderie, and diversifies the membership base. It can also serve as a catalyst for someone with an interest in Big Brothers Big Sisters to become a Six Degrees member. There will be four (4) Connection Mixers scheduled each year in the months of January, April, July and October. (April’s Connection Mixer will be in conjunction with the annual membership drive.)

Big Shot Events
A Six Degrees Big Shot Event is designed to give members a unique opportunity to not only hear some of the most prominent and well-respected business leaders in the Tampa Bay area speak of their success and personal involvement with Big Brothers Big Sisters, but to also engage in meaningful dialogue with them. Six Degrees members will have the privilege of interacting with the “Big Shots” in various ways, such as conversation over food and drinks, a “behind the scenes” tour of their company, etc. There will be four (4) Big Shot Events scheduled each year in the months of March, June, September and November.

Members will also get an up-close and personal look at the difference they are making in the lives of children by meeting and greeting with Bigs and Littles during Big Brothers Big Sisters match activities, events and fundraisers. Check out some of the opportunities available to Six Degrees members:

Big Brothers Big Sisters Agency Events
Six Degrees members will have the opportunity to attend and/or host agency events, many of which cater to the Big Brother/Sister volunteers and their Little Brothers/Sisters, while others focus on fundraising efforts for the agency’s mentoring services.

Bowl for Kids’ Sake
This is Big Brothers Big Sisters' signature fundraising campaign. It's not really about bowling...it's about raising money and awareness for Big Brothers Big Sisters so every child who needs and wants a mentor may have one. With every $1,000 raised, the agency will have the means to match a child on the waiting list with a caring adult mentor and professionally support their friendship for a year. People are encouraged to form teams of five, raise money for Big Brothers Big Sisters and then celebrate their efforts during a free, fun-filled bowling party in the spring.

Cooking for Kids
Cooking for Kids is a signature series of dinner parties featuring the exquisite culinary stylings of prominent local chefs. Each distinctive event is accessible only to an exclusive gathering of invitees, hosted in the private home of a community leader. Each “Cooking for Kids” event is underwritten through the generosity of Monogram Builders, Inc. and the respective host and/or hostess of the party. All proceeds generated from each “Cooking for Kids” event benefit the youth mentoring programs of Big Brothers Big Sisters serving Pinellas, Hernando and Citrus Counties. Six Degrees members at the Lifetime Executive Member level will have the privilege of being invited to these parties.

Big For A Day
This event is a perfect opportunity for someone to experience being a Big Brother/Sister for just one day. Big For A Day volunteers get paired with Littles who are not yet matched, and spend the day as a group, participating in a scheduled activity, such as a ball game, field day, company activity, etc. When you serve as a Big For A Day volunteer, you're a positive adult presence for a boy or girl who is on waiting to be matched to a Big Brother or Big Sister. In other words, you're providing a real service for a child who needs you.

Other Match Activities
From picnics to skating parties, Six Degrees members will be invited to attend and/or help plan these types of match events for a chance to see the special friendships between Bigs and Littles in action. Big Brothers Big Sisters coordinates several group activities each year, such as picnics, fishing trips, skating parties, and kickball games, where Bigs and Littles come together to have fun and interact with each other.
