University of Nebraska at Omaha
Mav-Rec Youth Programs will host a family-friendly Halloween Party Oct. 31 from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. in the HPER Building. The free event is open to all ages. There will be a haunted house, carnival games, candy, prizes and much more! Canned food for local food banks, and blankets and towels for the Town & Country Humane Society will also be collected on the 31st. Pop-up art fits a museum
Sometimes a plain picture book just isn't enough.  Starting Saturday (October 10) and running through January 3, the Joslyn Art Museum presents "Wizards of Pop: Sabuda and Reinhart," an exhibition displaying the works of two of the most innovative artists of pop-up books.
Robert Sabuda and Matthew Reinhart are responsible for such books as "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (pop-up) and "Encyclopedia Prehistorica: Dinosaurs."
The exhibition will include over 60 images from 13 picture and pop-up books.
At times throughout the exhibition, workshops on creating pop-up books, for kids and adults, will be available.

Prime Time Family Reading
Primed for "prime time family reading®"
Every culture has passed down lessons on social virtues from one generation to the next through the tradition of storytelling. North and south Omaha families with children six years old and up are invited to recreate a similar tradition at PRIME TIME FAMILY READING®, a free six-week program designed to help parents and children read together and talk about stories with life lessons. 
Charles B. Washington Branch, 2868 Ames Ave. offers the series on Saturdays, 10 a.m. to noon, Oct. 10 through Nov. 14. Breakfast will be served each week. Register online at omahapubliclibrary.org or call 444-4849.

South Omaha Library, 2808 Q St. offers the series in Spanish and English on Saturdays, 10 a.m. to noon, Oct. 17 through Nov. 21. Breakfast will be served each week. Register online at omahapubliclibrary.org or call 444-4850.

Small children are welcome and special activities are planned for them. Transportation to and from the program will be available for those who make prior arrangements with the Prime Time location of their choice.

Feel like getting lost in nature?
Arbor Day Farm’s Giant Corn Maze Challenge.   It’s open through Nov. 1.  The maze, part of the farm’s Tree Adventure attraction, covers 20 acres and includes more than four miles of paths, making it one of the largest in the area.  Also part of the Tree Adventure attraction is Artisan Woods, an outdoor exhibit featuring the work of nine regional artists along the trails.  The Tree Adventure is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and until 7 p.m. on weekends. Admission is $6.50 for adults, $4.50 for children ages 3 to 12 and free for kids 2 and under.

Dinosaurs at Fontenell Forest
DinoQuest, an exhibit that will feature life-sized dinosaurs in realistic poses dotted through the forest.    The dinosaur exhibit will be open Aug. 1 through Oct. 31.  For more information, visit their website at http://www.fontenelleforest.org/.

Omaha Public Schools 150 Years Exhibit
The Omaha Public Schools bring their story of a century and a half of teaching the Omaha community to the Durham Museum starting Saturday.  Explore the history of OPS through a collection of rare photos and one-of-a-kind artifacts.  Admission is $7 for adults, $6 for those older than 62, and $5 for children ages 3 through 12.  Members and children under 2 are free.  For more information visit www.ops.org.

Local Hockey Exhibit 
Exhibit on the history of hockey in Omaha, Includes artifacts loaned by local collectors and a restored video of a 1942 Ak-Sar-Ben Knights game. Retired pro hockey player Motto McLean visits with museum visitors from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Fridays, through Oct. 30.

When: Exhibit is open during regular museum hours through Nov. 15; 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.

 The Strategic Air & Space Museum's newest exhibit is aimed at the littlest flight fans.
“Dreamers Gallery”  This interactive exhibit is the latest addition to the permanent collection.  It consists of multi-colored foam blocks set against a backdrop of the solar system. The blocks help children strengthen their motor and reasoning skills, while the solar system backdrop teaches children which planet is closest to Earth and which is the farthest, as well as the name of each planet in between.  The exhibit is in partnership with SAC Federal Credit Union.  The Strategic Air & Space Museum is located at Exit 426 off I-80, halfway between Omaha and Lincoln. The Museum is open 7 days a week, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $8.50 for adults, $7 for seniors/military, $4 for children ages 6 to 12, and children under 5 free.
