Mr. Bartow was born August 18, 1930. This Browning, Missouri native coached men’s basketball for 34 years at six universities. Bartow retired from coaching in 1996, and in 1997, UAB renamed its basketball venue, Bartow Arena, in his honor. Gene is now president of Hoops, LP, the company that runs the Memphis Grizzlies and the FedEx Forum.   Mr. Bartow has been a long time advocate for Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) and Bowl For Kids’ Sake. He served as Honorary Chair for Bowl For Kids’ Sake for a number of years, and BBBS is proud to have his support again as the 2010 Bowl For Kids’ Sake Honorary Chair.

What is Bowl for Kids Sake?  

 Bowl For Kids’ Sake is a fundraising event that supports the programs and services provided by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Birmingham (BBBS). BBBS has been providing positive adult role models for at-risk youth in the Greater Birmingham community for over 35 years. Its programs boost self-esteem and improve the chances that children will find success in their academic, social, and family lives. BBBS serves over 1,000 youth annually and recruits, screens, trains and matches volunteer mentors with children in need of positive influences.

How to Get Involved

 For 2010, BBBS is offering two ways to participate in Bowl for Kids' Sake:

1) Be a Company Coordinator: Invite your company and co-workers to bowl with you at one of the bowling centers and dates listed below. The bowling is free for participants and pizza is provided. In order to participate we ask that each Bowler raise a minimum of $50 a piece.
