President Obama Signs National Mentoring Month 2010 Proclamation

2010 National Mentoring Month

The 9th Annual National Mentoring Month will be observed in January 2010. This year, in recognition of the occasion, Big Brothers Big Sisters is calling on donors, as well as volunteers, to provide support for thousands of children who need long-term mentors.

This will be an opportunity for the national office and agencies to remind the public that Big Brothers Big Sisters, the nation’s largest donor-supported network of volunteer mentors for youth, requires funding to provide support for our Bigs, Littles, and families from before a match happens throughout its course. It allows us to reinforce and remind the public that Big Brothers Big Sisters’ long-term mentoring results, according to independent research, in children improving academically and socially.

Big Brothers Big Sisters is a lead partner in National Mentoring Month, which is spearheaded by the Harvard Mentoring Project of the Harvard School of Public Health, MENTOR/National Mentoring Partnership, and the Corporation for National and Community Service.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Birmingham has partnered with WVTM TV NBC13 HD in recognition of National Mentoring Month. In partnership with America's First Federal Credit Union, the Alabama Organ Center and NBC13 HD Making a Difference, Big Brothers Big Sisters will honor the unsung heroes in our community for their dedication and committment to the youth of Birmingham.
