Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri Has Successful Year Recruiting African American Mentors
St. Louis, MO – November 18, 2008 - Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri has successfully recruited over 340 African-American volunteers to mentor youth throughout the St. Louis region, making this the agency’s most successful recruitment effort in history. Today, 1 in every 3 calls to the agency are from African American volunteers.
“Our organization has become extremely proactive in reaching and retaining African-American volunteers,” said John Suggs, director of community engagement for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri. “We’ve tried many strategies, but the most successful one has been simply caring about the community we serve”.
