Driving Safety
Before you and your Little zoom off for your next outing, please consider the following safety tips to make sure everyone stays safe!
1. Remember you are the only person allowed to drive your Little when you are together!
2. Make sure you and your Little buckle up every time you're in the car!
3. Big Brothers Big Sisters has booster seats available if your Little needs one. Read the following information to find out if your Little needs a booster:
a. Children ages 4-7 who weigh at least 40 lbs. must be in an appropriate child safety seat or booster seat unless they are 80 lbs. or 4'9" tall.
b. Children 8 and over or weighing at least 80 lbs. or at least 4'9" tall are required to be secured by a safety belt or buckled into an appropriate booster seat.

4. If your Little is driving or getting ready to start, please know that Big Brothers Big Sisters advises you NOT to let your Little drive your vehicle. If an accident would occur, you would be liable and Big Brothers Big Sisters’ insurance would not cover the damages. Below are a couple facts you should know about teens beginning to drive:
a. If the permit holder is under age 16, the accompanying licensed driver must be a qualified person, grandparent, qualified driving instructor, in case of disability, their designee.
b. At age 16, the driver may apply for an intermediate license. The intermediate license allows the driver to drive alone except during a late night curfew (1:00 am to 5:00 am). The driver and passengers must use seat belts, be free of alcohol and drugs, and obey the traffic laws.
