Big Brothers Big Sisters Volunteer Spotlight

It is our esteemed pleasure to honor the work of such a distinguished group of young men – the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

Historically, the Alpha Phi Alpha-Big Brothers Big Sisters Partnership began in the early 1990’s. Today, the partnership is moving to the next level in scope, capacity, and effectiveness by engaging each Alpha Brother in a simple challenge: “Become a friend to a young man.”

In 2007, two very determined young men Mr. Aaron Williams and Mr. Mohamed Abdel-Razig sought to take this national collaboration to the next level by encouraging local frat-brothers to engage in Community Service right here in St. Louis.

What came out of many months of planning was the “Am I My Brother’s Keeper Mentoring Initiative" – a partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters. As the mode progressed, there was a natural fit to match the Men of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity with the student- Alumni of Loyola Academy – and today the success of the program is seen and felt by many.

The core element of this program is empowerment. The Big Brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha Inc. empower their Littles to achieve academically and socially while putting the pieces together for a successful run at applying to and finishing college.
