Bike Safety

A BBBS match favorite Spring activity is to go bike riding. Please make sure you take the proper precautions when taking your Little out on the road.

1.       ALWAYS make sure that your Little is wearing a safety helmet that fits them properly. Bigs set a good example for them by wearing yours as well. 

2.       Make sure that your Little’s brakes work prior to riding.

3.       If your Little is an inexperienced rider make sure to stay away from busy streets.

4.       If you and your Little are riding bikes on a street with traffic, make sure that you are riding the same direction as traffic. A motorist will not be expecting to see you riding the opposite direction.

5.       Be sure that you and your Little are following all traffic laws (ex. Signs, signals, and lane markings).

6.       Try to avoid biking at night, it is more difficult to keep a close eye on your Little. If you do bike at night make sure to have reflectors on your bikes and clothing.

7.       Have a great time and check out some of these fun trails: Katy Trail (St. Charles County), Forest Park (St. Louis City), Creve Coeur Park (West County).
