Quarterly Theme:  Industriousness

Conversation Starters

  • Talk about setting goals for personal hobbies, physical fitness or other healthy habits.
  • Talk about times when it is important to work hard (at home, in the community, at school, etc.)
  • Share information about your career path and how you have reached your goals. Tell them all about your very first job!
  • Ask your Little if they are looking for a summer job and talk about job searching.
  • School’s almost out! Talk about how this school year went and your Little’s thoughts on advancing to the next grade.
  • If your Little is not going to be working this summer, discuss other ways to spend the summer (volunteering and local summer camps are options). Ask your match support specialist for activity ideas!

Big Idea Activities

Saturday, May 2nd:  Community Service Opportunity-FREE fun in Lafayette Park!

Join other matches to explore and help clean up Lafayette Park!  Matches will be given a tour of this historic park and will assist in some clean up such as raking and planting.  Lunch will be provided.  This is a great opportunity to work with your Little on the importance of giving back to the community!  We would love to have 10 matches help get the park ready for our Family Movie Night in June!   Please RSVP to your MSS by Tuesday, April 28th.

Saturday, May 9th: Science Center Activity

Big Brothers Big Sisters is excited to announce the Spring Schedule of St. Louis Science Center and Science Firsthand Partners in Discovery.  Matches are invited to participate in monthly group science “investigations” led by Science Center staff as your schedule allows.  During these “investigations” teams will share in hands on discovery, ask questions, and discuss solutions.  These fun and educational activities encourage ongoing conversations that stimulate strategic thinking skills and reflection on how we know what we know.

Join us for the “Young Investigators Conference” to showcase the science activities that you have been working on this year during previous “investigations”.  Matches are also able to attend and present science “investigations” that they have completed on their own outside of “Science Firsthand Partners in Discovery” meetings (similar to a Science Fair)!  Please RSVP to your MSS by May 6th.

 A Little Something Extra

  • Help your Little build their resume and expand their interests by finding volunteer activities to do together.
  • If your Little is in high school and wants to find a summer job, help them brainstorm ideas, search for possible employers together or conduct “mock” interviews to help them prepare and feel more comfortable.
  • Dress up in “office attire” and eat dinner together. Teach your Little table etiquette and appropriate dress for the professional world.
