Big Brothers Big Sisters of Dane County needs YOU.

Big Brothers Big Sisters receives 75% of our funding from private donations. Support from individuals like you is vital to provide mentors for children in Dane County.

And we know they need them. It isn’t easy being a kid these days. In these complex and confusing times, children need a caring adult to be a mentor and a friend — someone they can talk to, have fun with, and learn from.

Research shows that our mentoring works. Kids with a Big Brother or Big Sister show real differences in their personal and academic lives. They are:

            Nationally:

• More confident in their schoolwork performance
• Able to get along better with their families
• 52% less likely to skip school. ¹ 

   Currently In Dane County: 

• 10% of youth do not graduate from high school
• 9.2 % of youth live in poverty
• 9.6% of youth are arrested as juveniles
• 20% of youth report rarely having good talks with adults about personal problems, future plans, drugs and alcohol.
  
  In 2008, children matched to a Big Brother or Big Sister in Dane County:
  
• 58% were less likely to use drugs or drink alcohol
• 61% improved their academic performance
• 65% got along better with family and friends
• 59% were more likely to avoid delinquency

Your donation will be used to: 

• Help recruit new Big Brother and Big Sister volunteers
• Cover the costs of background checks and insurance, while ensuring trained professionals match children to caring and responsible Bigs
• Offer one-on-one, ongoing supervision and support for every match
• Provide cultural and social activities to enrich the opportunities for children

This year, BBBS of Dane County inaugurated the Circle of Light Leadership Group.  The Circle of Light Leadership Group consists of forward thinking community members who recognize the potential of today's youth.  We invite you to invest in our youth by becoming a Circle of Light member!  By making a charitable contribution of $1,000--the cost of creating and maintaining one Big Brother Big Sister Match--you are automatically enrolled as a member.
