The Amelia Island Plantation will host the 14th Annual Reggie Hunt Memorial Golf Classic at the ocean links course on Tuesday, November 17, 2009. The event held in Nassau County is held annually in memory of Reggie Hunt, a former Fernandina High School student athlete and 6 year participant in the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Nassau County program, who died tragically as a teenager in an accident in August, 1996.
Participants tee off at noon to a shot gun start. At the conclusion of play there is a steak cookout with refreshments and awards. Prizes are awarded to the participants who raise the most money and winners of hole prizes.
Anyone who is interested in playing golf in a first class event to raise money for a very worthy cause can contact tournament co-chairman Tom Oden at 904-261-9500; 904-806-6854 or e-mail him at toden@bbbsnefl.org for details or you can register on-line below.

William Reginald Hunt, Jr. was born on October 26, 1980 in Fernandina Beach, Florida. Throughout his young life, he gave love and value to his family and community. He was an active member of the New Zion Missionary Baptist Church. He was a Cub Scout. He played Elm Street Little baseball. He received honorary awards in the Nassau County Dare Program under the direction of Tommy Seagraves, who today is Sheriff of Nassau County. Reggie participated in the Neighborhood Youth Crime Prevention Program.
For six years, he was a Little Brother in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. Cyril Traeye was his Big Brother. Reggie’s forte came when he began to play football, his most beloved sport. He was a lineman on the FBHS varsity football team. He hoped one day to play in college and “put Fernandina on the map”.
He was going to come back home and give back to his community. Reggie was electrocuted in a tragic gardening accident on August 10, 1996. He was planning to play in the Golf Marathon fundraiser later that month. The 1996 event was declared by Executive Director Chip Wood to be the First Annual Reggie Hunt Memorial Golf Marathon to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Nassau County. Everyone fortunate enough to have known Reggie has been left with something positive in his or her hearts.
Cartoonist Ed Gamble created this poster as a gift to BBBSNEFL to recognize Reggie Hunt. The Little holding the golf club is Reggie Hunt.
