Big Brothers Big Sisters

of the Capital Region needs YOU.

Support from individuals like you is vital to provide mentors to vulnerable children in our local community.

And we know they need them.  It isn’t easy being a kid these days. In these complex and confusing times, children need a caring adult to be a mentor and a friend — someone they can talk to, have fun with, and learn from.  Our priority is to serve chidren from low-income, single parent homes whose circumstances place them at risk for school failure and delinquency.

Our Local Programs WORK. 

Capital Region children with a Big Brother or Big Sister show positive gains in their personal and academic lives. Our local 2007 evaluations show that among children matched for one year:

• 70% improved self-confidence;
• 52% improved their grade-point average;
• 48% improved their attitudes about school;
• 46% improved their relationships with their families;
• 55% improved their relationships with peers; and
• 94% improved or maintained their ability to avoid delinquency.

• cover the costs of child enrollment and volunteer screening;
• provide one-to-one supervision and support for every match; and  
• offer new cultural and social activities to the children we serve.
