Our First "Fore the Kids" Golf Classic

The first “Fore the Kids” Golf Classic at West Point Golf Course held on August 31, 2009, was a success for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County.  Co-Chairs Wayne Martin and Jeff Babcock led the event committee to raise more than $11,000. “The monies raised for Big Brothers Big Sisters will be used to provide support for more than 300 mentoring relationships now formed between caring community mentors and at-risk children aged 4-17,” explained Nancy Kosloski, Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County.

The beautiful, sunny day of golf, raffles, lunch and dinner was enjoyed by 120 golfers. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County has had a thirty-one year partnership with engaging West Point Cadets and Military personnel in mentoring vulnerable children ages 4 to 17 beat the odds. The organization depends on donations to help recruit and enroll volunteer mentors to reach more children. Funding is used to conduct background checks on volunteers to ensure child safety and provide ongoing support for children, families and volunteers to build and sustain long-lasting relationships, a key contributor to a successful mentoring relationship. Your support will help us continue to reach more than 400 children annually. Big Brothers Big Sisters is proven by independent research to improve children's odds for succeeding in school, behaving nonviolently, avoiding drugs and alcohol, and breaking negative cycles.
