Big Brothers Big Sisters Southeastern PA ( BBBS SEPA) has been matching at-risk youth with Big Brothers and Big Sisters in Philadelphia, Chester, Montgomery and Delaware Counties for 90 years.

Our mission

To improve the lives of children and strengthen communities through professionally-supported, one-to-one mentoring relationships.

Our vision

To take our life-changing mission to every child in the region who needs and wants a Big Brother or Big Sister.

We are the largest and oldest youth mentoring organization in Pennsylvania. Census information suggests that 120,000 children in Chester, Delaware, Philadelphia and Montgomery Counties are at-risk of social and academic failure.

We are committed to providing more children with Big Brothers and Big Sisters (“Bigs”) so that they can benefit from the positive impact of mentoring. Since the 2002 merger that created BBBS SEPA, we have an impressive track record of growth. In 2008, we made and supported 4300 matches between children and volunteer mentors. While this nearly quadruples the number of children we served in 2002, our short-term goal is to serve 7500 children annually.

Our Mentoring Works

National research has shown the positive relationships between youth and their Big Brothers and Big Sisters have a direct and measurable impact on children's lives. Little Brothers and Sisters are:

  • More confident in their schoolwork performance

  • Able to get along better with their families

  • 46% less likely to begin using illegal drugs

  • 27% less likely to begin using alcohol

  • 52% less likely to skip school
