Full Job Description:

Reporting to the Director of Community Development and Recruiting, the Community Relations Specialist is a key player in a dynamic and growing Big Brothers Big Sisters team. Big Brothers Big Sisters is the most well-respected and well-recognized name in youth mentoring and is a leader among youth advocates in the Sheboygan and Manitowoc County communities, collectively referred to as the WI Shoreline. This role presents a valued addition to the BBBS team, being the first to attract and respond to inquiries from potential youth, mentors and families interested in engaging in the agency’s programs and will also lead each through a quality enrollment process. In addition, this role plays an integral part of the agency’s brand awareness and community development efforts.

Primary Objectives:

  • serve all youth who need and or desire agency support.

  • maximize agency and program capacity.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Implement principal strategies for agency community relations, with a priority focus on volunteer and youth recruitment.
  • Engage in and support efforts to maximize agency capacity for volunteer and youth ‘matches’ including maintenance and growth.
  • Generate, maintain, and or grow agency brand awareness and relevance in all applicable communities, and include identifiers like, but not limited to mission, differentiations, service populations, response to community needs, and impact.
  • Manage and deliver customer relations experience per the required BBBS service delivery model
  • Remove and or reduce barriers to match enrollment and retention.

Sample Tasks:

  • Effect and evaluate community partnerships and outreach opportunities including but not limited to in-person, digital, and virtual presentations (i.e., local schools, small businesses and local corporations, service clubs, social services, law enforcement agencies, nonprofits, and neighborhood associations), and community volunteer events.
  • Review applications, references, background checks, fingerprint results, school referral forms etc., to initiate the enrollment process for youth and volunteers.
  • Conduct home visits and face-to-face interviews with youth and volunteer applicants, parents, and/or legal guardians.
  • Partner with program staff to complete the comprehensive ‘match’ assessment and enrollment process.
  • Support agency program engagement activities as needed.
  • Support agency fund development events and activities as needed.

Education and Professional Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred (i.e., nonprofit studies, marketing and communications, social work).
  • At least two years professional experience in the nonprofit industry and or a related field required (i.e., youth development, marketing and communications, volunteer recruitment and coordination, corporate relations).

Skill Requirements:

  • Embrace and advocate for the BBBS mission and vision.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint); Canva, Adobe Acrobat, InDesign preferred.
  • Excellent oral, written and otherwise visual communications.
  • Excellent time and project management with attention to detail.
  • Critical and analytical thinking.
  • Solution-focused decision-making and problem-solving.
  • Ability to function autonomously and within a team.

Position could headquarter in either Sheboygan or Manitowoc County and will require travel throughout entire service area.
