Since 1918, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado (BBBSC) has operated under the belief that inherent in every child is incredible potential. As part of the nation’s largest donor- and volunteer-supported mentoring network, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado makes meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers (“Bigs”) and children (“Littles”), ages nine through young adulthood in Colorado. We develop positive relationships that have a direct and lasting effect on the lives of young people.

BBBSC serves youth through a portfolio of mentoring programs.

  • Community-based is a traditional mentoring program. Mentee/mentor matches determine activities of mutual interest and meet two to four times per month.
  • Sports Buddies is an innovative mentoring program started by BBBSC in 2000. Mentee/mentor matches meet one to two times per month for sports-based activities that are planned, scheduled, and overseen by BBBSC staff.
  • The Mentor 2.0 program matches youth attending a partner high school one-to-one with an adult mentor starting in high school and through the first year of post-secondary education or training. Matches in mentor2.0 communicate and build their relationship through weekly email exchanges using the research-based “College Ready” curriculum.


The primary purpose of this position is to ensure that volunteer mentor candidates are professionally screened through thoughtful interviews, thorough assessments, screening, and appropriate recommendations for approval, matching or closure. This position requires a high degree of independent judgment, documentation, strong customer service, and efficient time management.


  • Provides exemplary customer service and follow-up to all families, volunteers, and staff.
  • Demonstrates a high level of proficiency and skill in applying child safety and risk management knowledge when assessing potential volunteer and youth and in all aspects of the job.
  • Assess and identifies factors contributing to successful match and/or barriers, challenges to a successful match relationship.
  • Works with all stakeholders to match volunteers with the child applicants in a manner that strongly considers all parties’ requests from a cultural, gender, religious, etc. standpoint and that enhances the BBBSC relationship.
  • Customer Relations responsibilities:
    • Respond to all family and volunteer questions within expected time period (48 hours); manage effective follow-up after initial interaction.
  • Enrollment responsibilities:
    • Completes volunteer or family interviews as assigned, and partners with enrollment and program team to understand trends, needs and to prioritize workload.
    • Completes assessments and enrollment documentation tasks within expected time frame.
    • Maintains effective follow-up communication with each individual in the enrollment process until the participant is either recommended for approval, matching or closure.
  • In the case of Spanish speaking families, this position (if bilingual) will conduct initial correspondence via email, followed by a phone call to determine program, and the child and family interview.
  • Maintains written and statistical documentation in a professional and timely manner.
  • Maintains accurate and timely data in electronic and physical files.
  • Provides progress reports to team members and supervisor for both volunteer (mentor) and youth (mentee) enrollment.
  • Conducts volunteer training as assigned.
  • Capacity to assist with fingerprinting as requested.
  • Conducts reassessments/updates as assigned.
  • Performs duties in compliance with BBBS of America national standards and BBBSC policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Represents BBBSC in a professional manner in the community and office.


  • Passion for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado mission.
    • Maintain an awareness of the agency’s mission and work to promote the positive individual and social change goals it embodies.
  • Two (2) years working with one or more of the following: multi-cultural communities, youth, child development and child safety.
  • Strong assessment, intake, and interviewing skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, ability to execute results and prioritize.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Highly organized and efficient, capable of juggling multiple tasks and meeting deadlines within a fast-paced environment.
  • Maintain a creative, team-building approach to job performance and seek to bring a constructive, problem-solving orientation to all tasks.
  • Exercise discretion and professional judgment at all times keeping with the responsibilities carried personally and by the agency for the care and welfare of the clients, act with honesty and integrity in all aspects of Agency business.


  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Bi-lingual; fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English and Spanish

  • Starting salary for this position is $45,000. Additional compensation may be offered to staff who are bilingual in both English and Spanish.
